Nice to be appreciated
5/6/2019 Sitting in the office thinking what has happened since my last blog, well i volunteered at Stoneleigh Riding Clubs 2 day event on the steeplechase phase setting the riders off and helping with the timing (even got to give one of my favourite ponies a cuddle before they started) saw lots of people i knew which was good. Bought a new car, volunteered at The Wolf Run which was great fun as they had their first under 18's run over a shortened course lots of enthusiastic

Pretty flamingos and bad habits
Well there was a lot of pink at LandS Arena Eventing on Saturday 20th April from pink wigs, wings, onesies to a pair of pretty flamingos aka Lloyd and Henry, it was a fun day in the sunshine raising money for local charity Myton Hospice. Also i volunteered at The Wolf Run this time being held at Offchurch Bury usually the venue for horse trials, very surreal seeing it with not a horse in sight. Seemed that the runners loved the new venue even though according to the finishers

Somewhere new
So tonight i was trying a new riding school was teamed up with Tommy (sorry no photo but i’ll get one next time) the instructor is a friend so this lesson was an assessment of how i’m doing. Very different type of horse than i’ve been riding a bit smaller so slightly shorter stride, but didn’t feel too small for me. We practised lots of transitions found that Tommy needs quite a lot of leg to get him moving forward something i may notice in a couple of days! So a useful exerc

A good day
Well todays lesson went well it was a busy day at the riding school which is great to see. Teamed up with Mr Horse who was in a chilled kinda mood, we did rather a lot of trotting today (think i may notice that in a couple of days!) We did some raised poles which even he managed to leave where they were, over a couple of cross poles and yes they stayed up too! So off round the gallops for a trot i was put at the back thank god he was not feeling as well as the last time i rod

Don’t think your instructor can’t hear you!
Hello readers well today was lesson day and ended up being teamed up with Mr Horse again. It all started well (apart from the rain) getting the hang of this sitting trot business less bouncing about so must be sitting deeper in the saddle which means my lower leg must be in a better position. Anyway a couple of canters and a teeny mention by the intsructor when i swore at Mr H on the far side of the arena for trying to tank off ooops!! We came to do a tiny cross pole in trot

It’s been a while
Apologies for the silence, it’s been very busy since my last post, helping at arena eventing, volunteering at the Wolf Run, day out at Your Horse Live, more arena eventing, two weeks away in Florida, again more arena eventing oh and a bit of work thrown in too. Then today was lesson day was on the lovely Mr Horse who was feeling very springy and totally up for it more about that later. We warmed up couple of circuits trotting, a couple of canters then the jumps came out. Pop

Always look where you want to go (don’t look down)
Well not such a busy month this time, but still had the pleasure to watch some great riding. Started off with fence judging at The Pony Club Tetrathalon Championships at Offchurch Bury have to say the standard of riding was excellent as was the sportmanship and camaraderie of the competitors so thumbs up to The Pony Club equestrianism is in safe hands. Then it was off for a busy day supporting friends at Aston le Walls first up was Wobbleberry graduate Philippa Mitchell and

How to put a spanner in the works (for the second year running)
I thought long and hard about whether to post this, as I read other wobbleberries blogs and posts and seeing how nerves affect people’s riding experiences so much, the last thing I wanted was to give anyone a reason not to ride.....but please read to the end...as this does end on a positive! My training has been going so well this year, the date for the challenge was picked and the training run out at an unaffiliated event booked, and I was looking forward to it. Just a coupl

He's coming home!!
Not sure where to start, it's been a couple of weeks. I am still not able to ride following my fall, the fractured vertebrae have healed and the bruising has gone but the haematoma that formed as the bruising started to go down is still prominent. At it's worse it was 25 cm across which is quite a lump to be carrying round in the middle of your back. It is started to go down is about half the size now but it is going to be a while yet before I can start riding which is ver

”D” Day is here...
Ive been a bit quiet of late....just a case of life taking over, but so many positives have happened! Ive ticked off so many firsts, its starting to feel like I can complete this challenge, and not only that, but do it the way I wanted to, actually enjoying the whole experience. Heres a brief overview of what I have been doing over the last couple of months, & then we're bang up to date. So, five months into the year, and still no decision on which horse to complete the chall

Andrew Hoy Bootcamp.......
Journey planning obviously isn’t one of my strong points.... so after the epic trip down and back from Hartpury, I’m back in the wagon, heading back down south to Melton Mowbray. What I should have done, is just stabled on the way back to break the journey up.... but as they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’ll plan better next time! This time the journey is stress free, no unscheduled stops, & just an excited feeling about the next days training. We had won a place on a

When I was in the warm up with Charlotte Dujardin.......
It’s been a little while since I’ve posted....so what’s been going on? Last update was just as I was travelling down to Hartpury, excited and nervous for the competition that weekend ( in equal measure). We were on time, on schedule...& then we broke down on the motorway, which was terrifying. We managed to wedge the wagon on the chevrons between the slip road and roadside, & sat there with traffic whizzing past on both sides at 70mph while we phoned for assistance. Thankfull

And we’re off!
So, after the last minute pulling off of shoes (thank you will telfer!), losing the ability to ride at all over the last week, & saving a puppy from being squished in the middle of the road, we’re finally en route to Hartpury to the BD Winter Championships. Thats me, Oscar & my trusty co pilot/groom/confidence coach/gin drinking buddy/meltdown preventor/wagon driver Carole! This girl has talent in spades! So, even though I do this for FUN... why does it all become so stressf

April already.......eeeek!
So.....start of the year, mojo found, brave pants fitted nicely, and off we go....challenge completed by May....easy peasy?! I've even managed to make it through to April with breaking anything ( either bones in my body, or one of the ponies), and what happens............ the coldest, wettest & longest wintery start to the year I can remember since having horses. I definitely cannot be described as a fair weather rider, but the elements so far this year have had me beaten on

Still no riding
My ankle is starting to heal, 4 weeks on and I can just about drive, I am walking with a limp and if I'm on my feet for more than an hour the ankle swells up, it is still swollen and am finding it difficult to put shoes on. So with that in mind Buzz has gone away for some schooling. Buzz is very green and naturally spooky as well as a slight lack of self confidence, probably not helped by my own lack of confidence but we are getting there very slowly, this morning I managed t
